They are people who you call family because of the bond they share with you, either through blood or marriage. You would think that they would care about you but they probably don't. In India where "What will people say?" is given a lot of importance, it probably refers more to relatives. They would surely have an opinion about how you are being raised by your parents, what clothes you wear, what friends you have and who you date. They basically consider it a birthright to interfere in your life, with rarely a good word to say.
