They are people who you call family because of the bond they share with you, either through blood or marriage. You would think that they would care about you but they probably don't. In India where "What will people say?" is given a lot of importance, it probably refers more to relatives. They would surely have an opinion about how you are being raised by your parents, what clothes you wear, what friends you have and who you date. They basically consider it a birthright to interfere in your life, with rarely a good word to say.

Jealousy is something that would definitely plague them, if your parents are doing well in their career, or if they have land and property. If you are doing well in your studies or career, they may hope that doesn't continue that way. They would try to brainwash either your parents or you to make a wrong decision that seems right, but we all know that nothing is what it seems. If they want to go to the extremes, then they would use black magic or even hypnotism to ruin your family.

Whether joint or nuclear, every family has to deal with meddling relatives. You can just hope and pray that they get what they deserve for sweet talking in front of you while disguising their devious intentions. Your father or your mother may have a soft corner for their siblings and do anything in their power to help them, either through money or advice. They may not want to return the money or repay the favor.

There are good relatives but nowadays they are hard to find. You will most likely come across the ones who are like a snake in the grass. When Cain could kill his own brother Abel, then how do you know if you can really trust your relatives?
