At the threshold

When we are at a point when we feel overwhelmed by so much going on,  changes we need to prepare for; decisions to make, we must not forget to deal with our past. The past is like a shadow always with you even if you want it to go away. We cannot make a fresh start without tying up loose ends and dealing with our demons.

The negative stuff is what teaches us the most. All the hurt, pain and regret makes us feel vulnerable but we realise that it's fine to feel that way. We can't always be happy. The scars left behind from past experiences are reminders of what almost broke us. They also remind us of what we overcame. Most of the time we tend to surprise ourselves with what we can endure. We underestimate ourselves so much.

When we are stuck in a vicious circle of negative experiences, it's hard to keep the faith but that's when it's most required. When the clouds finally move away and the skies clear, it can be hard to believe it. Expecting negativity becomes a habit. We have to teach ourselves to think differently. To be more positive, and hopeful. This cannot be done without taking a journey within, to resolve old issues.

Taking a look at yourself in the mirror can be really hard when you wish you hadn't been through what you have. Forgiving yourself and others is the first step, and so is acknowledging that certain things were beyond your control. Deciding to not repeat past mistakes is important. Prudence not avoidance is what's needed.

When one deals with the monsters one realises that they're not that scary. We blow them up so big with our fears and insecurities, that we forget that we created them in the first place. After they go away the feeling of freedom is immense. The future is what we are left with that's filled with so many possibilities.
